Need Equipment for Use in Your Classroom?

Reminder: Classroom Equipment Loan Services in the Center for Teaching and Learning is closed. Due to budget constraints, the Classroom Equipment Loan program in the CTL ended in April of 2006. Instructors will no longer be able to obtain equipment from CTL for use in unequipped or under-equipped classrooms on North Campus. (Note: The Center’s program for assessment of an instructor’s classroom teaching via videotaping will continue. Call 966-1289 or email bcherego@email.unc.edu to schedule a videotaping session.)

Current Options

1. Check with your department.

Many departments have their own equipment available to loan out. In addition, the Center for Teaching and Learning has distributed the equipment from its loan program to departments and schools on North Campus with the greatest needs. Data/video projectors have been installed in the five most highly used unequipped classrooms: Bingham 101 and 103, Greenlaw 431, Dey 301, and Gardner 01; ITS’s Teaching and Learning with Technology division will maintain this equipment for a period of two years.

2. Change your room.

5. Consider changing the format of your instructional materials.

Instructors can obtain help with transferring their media to different formats (e.g. the conversion of 35mm slides to digital images) from many units on campus. Keeping in mind that each unit is likely to have different capabilities, and most operate on a self-service basis with minimal or infrequent staff support. Instructors may use the facilities maintained by the House Undergraduate Library, the Health Sciences Library, the Center for Teaching and Learning, and department- or school-based IT-service units.

6. Review the website IT Connections.

This online tool will help you locate IT Resources in your school or department.
